Summer Getaways

Pittsburgh is a beautiful place in the summertime. What better way to enjoy the warm weather, green trees and cool river breeze than packing the car and going on an adventure? Here are a few great summer destinations within a day trips distance from Pittsburgh.

Fallingwater & Ohiopyle State Park: Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in Mill Run is a blast from the past, a bit over an hour south of Pittsburgh. Considered by many to be Wright's masterpiece, the house is situated on top of a beautiful waterfall. Tours offer a look into the style of the 1930s, showing off beautiful architecture and original furniture and decorations. For Frank Lloyd Wright fans, another house of his, Kentuck Knob, is close by, only a 15 minute drive away. Kentuck Knob can easily be seen in the same day trip. For those seeking adventure, Ohiopyle State Park offers various levels of rafting and rock climbing, as well as kayaking and hiking.

McConnells Mill: A state park named after a Grist Mill turned rolling mill in the late 1800's.  Near a covered bridge, built in 1974, the Mill and the covered bridge are the heart of McConnells Mill, but are only one small attraction of this beautiful state park, which has an extensive trail system filled with gorges, waterfalls, rivers, and boulders you can enjoy in any season of the year!

Cuyahoga Valley National Park: Can you believe Cuyahoga National Park is just 2 hours from Pittsburgh? Situated 20 miles south of Cleveland, alongside the Cuyahoga River is 50 square miles of rolling hills and deep forests that was all designated as a National Park in 2000. The park is home to both biking and hiking trails, waterfalls, historic homes and even it's own Railroad.

Presque Isle State Park: Presque Isle may not have the notoriety of being a National Park or being home to famous houses like Fallingwater, but it is a historically diverse park filled with natural beauty and wildlife. While it does offer trails all over the park, lighthouse and lagoons, Presque Isle is best enjoyed by taking in its beauty and observing the birds, marine and wildlife that you can come across.

Take your Subaru out for an adventure this summer!
